Lightweight backpacking tent

To choose the best lightweight backpacking tent you carefully have to define your needs. The right choice is a matter of personal preference. However, when backpacking the weight is critical. You will feel every extra gram on your back .... so for backpacking you have to combine low weight with strength and safety.

The most common types of tents are 3 and 4-season. A 3-season tent is a good all around tent generally used in spring, summer and fall conditions in a temperate climate. A 4-season, mountaineering or high-altitude tent has features that enable it to be used year round. 4-season tents are heavier than 3-season tents, with more poles to withstand both wind and snow.

Space

The tents are usually labeled 1 person, 2 person, 3 person or4 person, as a method to describe the floor size. This is basedon average size adults. Headroom is also important. Don'tforget to check the dimensions. A bigger tent has more room, but may also be heavier to carry.

Price and quality

What amount of money you have to spend to get the best backpacking tent for your needs depend largely on the quality you are looking for. Of course there is a relation between price and quality. My own experience is that high quality backpacking camping equipment in the long run is cheap gear. See what tent I picked as the best lightweight backpacking tent for my needs.
